Serving with Love
Charity Programs
The heart of Jesus yearned for the poor, oppressed and the lost, to lift them up from deep sorrow and shame into honour by filling them with the richness of the living water. As children of the Living God, we extend ourselves to meaningfully and generously serve those forgotten or neglected through our various programs for Charity Programs.
Sustenance Program
Food and water security continue to be one of the largest areas of need. Millions of people worldwide live in poverty, facing circumstances that leave them without access to nutritious food and water. The reality that we are grappling with today is devastating, with many families struggling to feed the household even a single meal due to financial stress, contaminated water bodies, or poor infrastructure.
According to the World Food Program:
- 768 Million People were chronically hungry in 2020
- 155 Million People in 55 countries experienced acute hunger and required urgent food, nutrition and livelihood assistance
- 849 Million people have inadequate food consumption due to a lack of money or resources to access enough food.
Through our Sustenance Program, we aim to improve food and water security by providing food and digging freshwater systems in remote areas worldwide.
The project helps these people by:
- Providing balanced, nutritious meals to children
- Drilling wells in remote areas to help communities access safe drinking water.
- Supporting water committees and training them in water management
-
Providing agricultural training and supporting the establishment and management of nutritional gardens.
Begin Again Program
An estimate of 100 million people was homeless worldwide, with 1.6 billion people lacking adequate housing. (United Nations, 2005)
Forever Family Program
Civil unrest, war and disease significantly impact several men, women and children and have claimed lives worldwide. Parents have lost children and children orphaned because of ongoing conflicts, pandemics, and natural disasters that have affected several countries globally. Vulnerable populations like children are often hit the worst in these circumstances as they are stripped of their support system and have no means to support or take care of themselves.
According to UNICEF
- Nearly quarter of the world’s population of children live in conflict or disaster-stricken regions
- 153 million children worldwide are orphans
- Institutional Care puts children at risk of physical, emotional and social harm.
Our Forever Family Program cares about children’s welfare by placing those without any family or relatives to take care of them in loving homes. They are put in stable family units consisting of a mother and father, ensuring that they are accepted and integrated emotionally and socially to be a part of the family. These families care for them as their own – by attending to all their physical, emotional and spiritual needs, providing them with the best opportunity to thrive in a stable environment.
Restoration Homes Program
Destitute with no means to support themselves, lost in the complexity of mental illness, helpless and hopeless, abandoned due to circumstances out of their control, thousands exist on the fringes of society without a support system. Mental Illness and homelessness have long coexisted, with one leading to the other and vice versa. The problem is compounded by a host of other socio-economic factors, including stigma, financial stress, and poor understanding of and access to proper care. Here are some numbers to help understand the severity of the situation –
- Mental health conditions are estimated to contribute to nearly 13% of global diseases.
- 50-90% of people in low- and middle-income countries do not receive appropriate care for mental illness.
- It is estimated to account for 37% of healthy years of life lost to a non-communicable disease.
In response to this need, the Caritas Restoration Homes aim to give refuge and a safe place for those with mental illness to be restored in mind and body. Our team of doctors, nurses and caregivers work tirelessly to provide the best care possible in every way. As a result, they are gently nursed back to good health and receive psychological counselling and treatment for mental illness and trauma. In addition, they receive help to transition and integrate back into society through training and engagement in skilful activities, giving them the means to earn a living whilst remaining mentally stimulated and emotionally fulfilled.
