But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1:2 (NKJV)

O my soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.” (Psalm 16:2 NKJV)

King David says to the Lord, “my goodness is nothing apart from you.” He was absolutely convinced that all goodness he is having, facing, or even going to see is only from God. Another version says, “You are my Lord; I have nothing good outside of you.” For a child, whatever his father does or gives is the best for him. God is a good father. The Bible says, if we, being wicked, know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more the Father in heaven. (Matt 7:11)

In James, it says all good things come from the Father of lights. (James 1:17) Sometimes in life, when we expect a blessing from God, such as a job, marriage, or anything we desire, and it doesn’t come in the way we expected, we become upset, thinking, “Lord, this is not what we were looking for” or “this is not what we expected.” We start to feel that God is not being fair to us. We must know He is our God and our Father. He has already seen our end from the beginning: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

The things which appear to look good outside of His will are just a deceptive illusion and short-lived. When in the Garden of Eden, Eve saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes. (Genesis 3:6) But was it good? Eventually, death came upon mankind.

Even today, many of us struggle to accept the will of God. God has only planned to prosper us and to give us a great future. (Jeremiah 29:11) The will of God alone is good for us, and God alone has the power to give us a great future because when God declares His word, He has the power to keep His word. No one has this good plan for us, not even we ourselves. We are miserable without God, and without His mercy, we only become self-destructive.

We need to know that when He gives a blessing, He will also bless the blessing. God is our Father, and He knows what we need even before we ask. (Matt 6:8, 32) He gives you the strength to endure, the strength to adapt, and the wisdom to work through it. Everything that comes from God—the good, the worst, the wicked—everything has a purpose to build in you a character of Christ stronger day by day. So, everything is building your inner man who is in Christ. Daily, your heart, mind, body, and soul are getting occupied by Christ, and you are being transformed into His image slowly. No matter what comes your way—the good and the evil—it’s all going to work together for your good. (Romans 8:28)

There is nothing good for us outside of God. This is not just a verse; it should also become our mindset. When we know this truth, it makes a lot of things easier to understand why things happened the way they happened. If God didn’t allow it, it was not for our good.

King David says, “Your goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life.” (Psalm 23:6) The goodness of God keeps following us, and when we face difficult times, He even makes all His goodness pass before us. (Exodus 33:19) to show us He is with us at all times. We, as children of God, are surrounded by His goodness.
